Sang Run after Release
will be feet

The purpose of this calculator is to allow you to easily calculate what the Sang Run or Friendsville bridge gauges will be after a Dam release.
Rules - Will they release 1 tube or 2 tubes
The CFS depends on Lake Level, higher flow when lake high
  • One Tube = 310 to 350 CFS
  • Two Tubes = 620 to 700 CFS
    1. If flow at Friendsville is less than 600 CFS at time of release, they will release two tubes.
    2. If natural flow is above 600 CFS they will only release one tube.
    3. If natural flow is above 1350 CFS they will not release at all.
    4. If natural flow is rising and above 900 CFS they may choose not to release at all.

Enter the reported USGS flow in CFS, Then add the expected release flow.
If flow is rising or falling use estimated Friendsville flow at 3 PM

When does the water get to town
Note most releases start at 10 AM EDT in the Spring/Fall and 11 AM in the Summer months.
The flow takes two hours to reach Sang Run Bridge, less time if natural flow is high.
The flow takes three hours to reach "Wait Rock", less time if natural flow is high.
5:00 hours after release start to reach "Friendsville" if Natural flow is >100 CFS
4:15 hours after release start to reach "Friendsville" if Natural flow is >200 CFS
3:30 hours after release start to reach "Friendsville" if Natural flow is >300 CFS
3:00 hours after release start to reach "Friendsville" if Natural flow is >400 CFS

The latest you can put in at Sang Run after a release
Level starts to drop 1:15 hours after the dam is shut off. if you want the full release. After 1:45 hrs, you will not have any water at the put in. After 2:00 hrs, you will spend all day chasing the release water flow.
The end of the bubble reaches Lost and Found, the last major rapid, about 3 hours after the release ends; it reaches the take-out in Friendsville about an hour later. Don’t fall behind the bubble.

Whether they release or not depends on what the Lake Level is compared to the Rule Band, See the Lake Level & Schedule

If the lake Level is above the Upper Rule Line, they will release that day.
If the Lake Level is within the Rule Band they will follow the Published Schedule
If the Lake Level is below the Lower Rule Line they may still do a 2 hr fish release if the water temperature high.
