Peer Pressure

Postby EGOOT » Fri May 12, 2017 4:21 pm

I'm in california and I'm getting pressured by a group of friends (with whom I've only played kayak polo with), who want me to run the Kern with them in what is approximately flood stage conditions.

I like technical, but I'm kind of afraid of "Big Water."

I'm writing to express to you that I'm not going, and that I don't feel ready for this. Am I turning down just a chance to grow? Or, like, are they being irresponsible?

Geoff says that big water is an entirely different skillset.

Just wanted to hear your opinions. They won't change my mind for this weekend, but maybe next weekend.

Kern is really a very tough run depending on which section.
I have trouble with big water also.
Work up to that rixer slowly, do it at normal to low first.
